Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a video call with his Malaysian counterpart Dato' Sri Hishammuddin Hussein on Wednesday stressed taking advantage of barter trade.

They agreed on preferential tariff contract and holding joint economic commission.

Both sides discussed bilateral, regional, international, and Islamic world issues.

Thanks to Malaysia's position as an active member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Zarif invited Hishammuddin to play his role in solving the Yemeni crisis through the political process.

He welcomed any initiative by Malaysia in line with establishing peace and ending the crisis in Yemen.

We will actively help maintain peace in Yemen, he noted.

Zarif appreciated Malaysia’s correct and principled stance in supporting oppressed Palestinians.

Hishammuddin, for his part, underlined the unchangeable position of Malaysia with regard to Palestine.

In a relevant development in May, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in a phone conversation lambasted the US illegal sanctions against Tehran, specially during the coronavirus epidemic, as a violation of human rights.

During the phone talks, Rouhani and Yassin underlined continued opposition to the US sanctions and the two countries’ support for each other at the meetings of international bodies.

The two sides also described coronavirus pandemic as a global challenge, stressing the necessity for the Islamic states to use common capacities to help each other in fighting the COVID-19 virus.

They also voiced readiness to use each other’s experiences in anti-coronavirus combat and cooperate in supplying hygiene and medical equipment.

The Iranian and Malaysian officials also underscored the importance of accelerating implementation of the two countries’ agreements in the trade and financial fields, vowing to make their utmost efforts to deepen mutual cooperation.
