“The eighth vessel carrying 351 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU)s loaded with 8,097 tons of wheat has arrived in the strategic Iranian port,” Aqayee said on Saturday.

He added that the cargo will soon be transferred to Afghanistan via land borders.

“The shipment is part of a total gift of 75,000 tons from India to Afghanistan,” the official added.

Aqayee noted that the Iranian port has handled over 53,000 tons of India’s wheat bound for Afghanistan since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20).

The shipment of Afghanistan’s commodities to India from Shahid Beheshti port is being carried out according to a trilateral deal between India, Afghanistan and Iran.

New Delhi, Tehran and Kabul inked a trilateral deal in 2016 to develop Shahid Beheshti port as a hub for the transit of goods from India to landlocked Afghanistan.

In relevant remarks on Saturday July 18, Aqayee said that the sixth Indian ship loaded with donated wheat for Afghanistan docked at Iranian Shahid Beheshti port of Chabahar.

He said that the ship carried some 8,875 tons of wheat.

Delhi has planned to donate nearly 75,000 tons of wheat to Kabul via Iranian port city of Chabahar, Aqayee added.

Some 14 cargo ships have carried basic goods for Afghanistan via Shahid Beheshti port in Iranian Southeastern city of Chabahar over the past two years, he had earlier said.
